TREASURE HUNT AT THE RECYCLING CENTRE!

 

So! I live very close to a recycling centre. Besides trash it's also a place where people dump stuff they don't need anymore for others to take. I've found tons of stuff there - you never know what you're gonna get when you go, but I don't think I ever left without at least a few things. Lots of treasures are being put up for grabs everyday, but you have to be quick to get the good stuff since a lot of senior citizens have made a hobby out of guarding the place like hawks - they're actually only allowed to be there 30 minutes a day, but still seem to hang around for hours.

Anyway! Today I went there with my mom to dump some clothes and a few dead light bulbs and batteries and while I was there a lady came with a car full of stuff. I got quite lucky today! Here's what I got:

• A bunch of adorably kitsch plates (I got about 10 plates with different fish motifs - they have the cutest gold rims!) 
• A clothes rack which I'm going to use this when I have a flea market - I love how it can be wrapped up to take up almost no space. 
• A picture frame that I just took because I thought I might need it someday. Turned out it fits one of my paintings almost perfectly! I've been looking for frames in second hand stores for my paintings and now I find one for free by accident - Yay! I might do some alterations to make the frame even fiercer, we'll see.

DEN SORTE BOG

Me and some other friends who write recently created a collective Twitter account called Den sorte bog (The Black Book"- the title isn't meant to be taken that seriously!). It's a place we post ideas/sentences/quotes and other things in our daily lives that inspire us. Things we'd normally put in our little black books.

It's mostly meant as a tool to fuel our writing. The point of sharing it with each other is that an idea somebody else had could be useful to others with an entirely different outcome.

Even though it's not written with the public in mind I thought I'd drop a link in case anybody would like to have a peak once in a while. I have a feeling that reading the tweets together will create a poetry in its own way or at least entertain with its randomness.

It's written in Danish since it's the language our minds use when creating poetry - unfortunately that's a hard habit to shake!

HIMMELGÅDER

Friday I packed my bags and sprung on a train for Lolland to visit the exhibition "Himmelgåder" ("Sky Riddles") at Fuglsang Kunstmuseum with my friend and former coworker Engel. The exhibition centered around outerspace and the way it's been perceived by art throughort history. I read about it in a newspaper several months ago while I was at away on folk high school and now with the last day of the exhibition just around the corner (today!) I finally got myself on a train to Nykøbing F.

From Nykøbing we took a bus and then somehow managed to get off one stop too soon. Which in Copenhagen wouldn't have been an issue, but here it meant walking about 3-4 kilometres in nearly stormy weather! Luckily both of us were in good spirits (we even went and knocked a stranger's door to ask for directions - he seemed quite unprepared for visitors). None of us had had breakfast so when we finally got to a sign announcing with a coffee-cup that the museum cafeteria was getting closer we found ourselves quite relieved.

As soon as we got our coats off it was time for breakfast. The cafeteria was nothing fancy compared to normal museum cafés but the waitress was very nice, the coffee was cheap and you could choose between a number of dishes, cakes, wines and coffee drinks at a midrange price level. I of course had to order pancakes from the dessert menu and a cup of coffee. Engel went with a curry soup.

 

Then we went to get some tickets which were 70 DKK - no student discount. A little pricey considering the money I'd already spent on the train - I imagine a lot of people travel far to come here. I'd like something cheaper next time if I'm to visit again.

 

 

As you can see here the museum was quite big and modern-looking even though it was in the middle of a field. The sculptures here are a part of the permanent display.

The Himmelgåder exhibition took up about half the space in Fuglsang (most of the rooms to the left and the hall) and really put it to good use. The walls very crammed with art. Since the theme wasn't either an artist or a period in art history you got a very mixed exhibition of classical, whimsical, weird, kitsch, naive and daring art pieces. In addition Fuglsang had compiled a playlist of  space themed music (ranging from classical to Muse) discreetly setting the mood, added video screens playing sequences from old science fiction movies and asked an astrophysics professor to comment on the phenomenons portrayed in parts of the exhibition. Everything felt very fresh and modern, yet not cold and soulless. There was a little problem with the light a few places at the museum - it would be pointing at a painting from the wrong angle making it harder to focus on the details in close-up. Nothing terrible, but something that they could easily get fixed.

         There is something really cool about this painting. I admire an artist who can paint something like this and just be like: "Fuck yeah! I think that went well!

 

 

As you can see I snapped all of these photos with an iPad! I don't own a real camera, unfortunately.

 

And finally! The SPACE CLOGS.

Phew that was a lot of photos. But I figured, since the exhibition ends today, that I wanted to share some of it since no-one reading this will have a chance to see it for themselves. I'm sorry for the lack of artist names. It would have taken too long to write them all down.

Evidently a lot of disabled people visit Fuglsang...

An almost non-music related post. I went to Sweden with my parents this weekend to visit my grandmother. It's actually her 92nd brithday today (happy birthday, mormor!), but we celebrated it a little early and stayed at her care home from friday to sunday. I brought along my boyfriend. Such a wonderful trip. I had not seen my grandmother for almost two years and it felt wonderful to finally see her. Although she is getting older I can still have a conversation with her, which isn't really the case with my grandfather, and I felt very moved and mellow during the weekend. The weather was wonderful as well and me and Simon went for a long walk the first night. Saturaday we did some vintage shopping. I got a fancy plaid old-man-style jacket, a striped shirt, some brooches and a few silly vinyls:

In the evening on saturday after putting my grandmother to bed we watched the Leonard Cohen documentary Bird on a Wire. The picture and sound quality was a little off, but this was due to how old the takes were and it was quite fascinating to watch because of how much "behind the scenes" material it contained. Leonard Cohen seemed like such a diva, too, haha!

All in all a great weekend. The pictures were taken with my parents' camera. Hope you enjoyed them - I love the spring feel and the fact that Gamleby recognizes how much it looks like something out of a Twin Peaks scenery!
