SUICIDE'S EASY WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REVOLUTION.

I ended up not going to the concerts with Efterklang and Sleep Party People mentioned in the other blog. Tired and off colour due to classes on a saturday (!) I spent my evening eating duck and apple-pie at my boyfriend's parents' place and then falling asleep after watching ten minutes of a movie. Living the dream!

Same case tonight actually. I had kind of considered maybe checking out The Crystal Castles concert at Vega, but after all I think will stay in. The band is fuelled with so much hype, but has kinda failed to really impress me yet. Some tracks are right on the spot, but they are few. The Robert Smith collaboration was pretty bad if you ask me and I say this as someone who loves The Cure.  To me it sounds like a so-so Cure-track rolled in a lot of clubbing noise just for the sake of sounding unique and modern.

But enough bullshit about things I didn't- and won't do.

Saturday I am catching my second concert with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club this year at Den grå hal, Christiania. Last time I saw them they played at Vega and performed a good, but not fantastic show. High hopes for saturday's gig. Last time they played Den grå hal they earned a top rating by the Danish music magazine Gaffa.

Although bordering on/swimming in a rock cliché I do think BRMC have their own soul somewhere under their leather jackets and that super pretentious name - and that makes the cliché totally okay to me. Especially since my favourite memories of their music, particularly the album Baby 81, spin around a time of my life where I myself was in the middle of romance drenched with (rock) clichés. What I found out back then was how real a cliché sometimes can feel. Their lead singer Peter Hayes also holds a special place in my heart, having played in Brian Jonestown Massacre earlier in his career.

IT'S ALIVE!

And off she went! Sorry about the weeks without any posts.

London:
My trip to London was great! I couchsurfed at this lovely lady's place in Camden. I hung out with my friend Sara, her family, this guy that was couchsurfing the same apartment I was living in and got to have some time to myself as well. Got a haircut while I was there. Nothing drastic, but under funny circumstances: I was cut for free as I was caught in the streets of Camden by this girl from a salon looking for hair models! Shopping-wise, I bought some cute dresses and a pair of oxfords (shoes). Besides I danced, laughed, looked at people (with kites) and took the city all in. Oh, and brunched like a madman. Nom!

I ended up attending a concert by the name Hallogallo. It's a project of members from NEU! and Sonic Youth performing old NEU! stuff. I went there quite spontaneously thanks to my new acquaintance Steve Power (I love that last name so I have to include it!) who bought me a ticket. Thanks once again to him!

I haven't been paying that much attention to NEU!'s music in the past. Even though I did download the albums they didn't really stick in my mind, but that is definitely something that will change after this wonderful evening. It was a sit-down concert and I was alone - still I found it hard to sit still in my seat. Clearly I was not alone. Even though at least half of the audience were old enough to be my parents the place was buzzing.

I found a review of the concert here (since I only wrote this poor little blurb for you).

A U F S T  E H E N !  Last friday I went to see Einstürzende Neubauten here in Copenhagen. They played Vega and opposed to last time they were here they played several older songs - old being relative as the really old songs were barely there - last time they played a lot of songs from their (back then) new album Alles wieder offen. Also different this time around was that I got there in time. Last time I missed the first couple of songs, but this time I was aaall the way up front. Definitely much more impressed by this show. The band appeared to be in such a great mood. They even came back three times to play more songs!

After the concert we stood outside and waited for the band to catch some autographs (I may be a big Neubauten fan, but nothing beats my friends, Line and Joy). Since I didn't have a lot of interesting things to sign with me we somehow decided that my newly purchased pack of hygiene pads were going to be the obvious choice.

No way?!

Way.

UPDATE!
You can DOWNLOAD a recording of the show here. Source unknown.

They played another show with other content the day before (5/11) which I did not attend.

FREEBIES:

Thanks to one of my favourite blogs (even though it writes too much about Spoon), hippiesaredead.com, I noticed that Pixies put up a live recording of a gig they did in 2004 at the Coachella Festival. I downloaded it from their homepage. All you have to do is throw an email address at them. Fair deal, I say. The sound quality is excellent. N.b. Up for a limited time only.

Speaking of free downloads I have to recommend everyone Big O Magazine -  Besides being a fantastic e-zine about music and politics (based in Singapore of all places!) they offer new amazing bootlegs from a large variety of bands in the league of Bob Dylan, Bowie and the like every week. I get their weekly newsletter via email.

And finally:
Tomorrow I am going to a concert with the band Efterklang which my friend Jeppe invited me to. Should be interesting. Even though I am not big fan of their actual music I already saw this band two times before. Once at Roskilde Festival and once last winther at a place in Copenhagen called Global. They played fairly good shows both times - their charisma makes up for a lot. Also playing tomorrow will be the band Sleep Party People.
